Foundation Level

The ANZTB adheres to the ISTQB examination guidelines prepared by the ISTQB which were written to ensure consistency and fairness across the ISTQB National Boards and Examination Providers.
Candidates are required to sit a 1 hour, 40-question multiple choice examination designed to evaluate a candidate's knowledge and understanding of the entire Foundation syllabus. Candidates are required to score 26 or more correct answers to pass.
Topics within the Foundation syllabus have been categorized by learning objective, defining the level of knowledge a candidate must display for each topic.
The three categories are as follows:
K1 - remember, recognize, recall;
K2 - understand, explain, give reasons, compare, classify, summarize;
K3 - apply in a specific context
The ISTQB has mandated a weighting for each exam paper. 50% of the questions will be K1 level, 30% will be K2 level and 20% will be K3 level.
Through this format and structure the ISTQB and its National Boards can examine and measure tester capability against a professional uniform baseline standard.
For subjects covered in the exam, please see the Foundation Level syllabus. The fee to take the Foundation level exam is AUD $330.00 (GST inclusive) or NZD $300.00 (exclusive). Should you need to resit, the re-examination fee is the same.
Advanced Level
If you wish to apply to take an ISTQB Certified Tester Advanced Level exam please download the exam Application.
The ANZTB adheres to the ISTQB examination guidelines prepared by the ISTQB which were written to ensure consistency and fairness across the ISTQB National Boards and Examination Providers.
Candidates are required to sit a 2 hour, 65-question examination designed to evaluate a candidate's knowledge and understanding of the Advanced syllabus. Candidates are required to achieve a pass mark of 65%.
Topics within the Advanced syllabus have been categorized by learning objective, defining the level of knowledge a candidate must display for each topic.
The three categories are as follows:
K2 - understand, explain, give reasons, compare, classify, summarize;
K3 - apply in a specific context;
K4 - analyze to solve a problem or task
The ISTQB has mandated a weighting for each exam paper. 60% of the questions will be K2 level, 25% will be K3 level and 15% will be K4 level.
Through this format and structure the ISTQB and its National Boards can examine and measure tester capability against a professional uniform baseline standard.

The examinations are controlled exclusively by the National Boards in the respective countries, such as the Australia & New Zealand Testing Board. These National Boards are not entitled to hold training sessions; this provides an additional guarantee of the objective testing of examination participants.
If English is not your first language you may use a translation dictionary, once the exam proctor has looked at and approved it. When you register, indicate that you will want to use a translation dictionary. You will also be allocated an additional 15 minutes in which to do the examination.
