Examinations

ISTQB Certified Tester, Foundation Level (CTFL)

The ANZTB adheres to the ISTQB Examination Guidelines prepared by the ISTQB which ensure consistency and fairness across the ISTQB's National Boards and Examination Providers.

Candidates are required to sit a 1 hour, 40-question multiple choice examination designed to evaluate a candidate's knowledge and understanding of the entire Foundation syllabus. Candidates are required to score 26 or more correct answers to pass.

Topics within the Foundation syllabus have been categorized by learning objectives, defining the level of knowledge a candidate must display for each topic.

The three categories are as follows:

K1 - Remember, recognize and recall.
K2 - Understand, explain, give reasons, compare, classify and summarize.
K3 - Apply in a specific context.

The ISTQB has mandated a weighting for each exam paper. 50% of the questions are K1 level, 30% are K2 level and 20% are K3 level.

Through this format and structure, the ISTQB and its National Boards can examine and measure tester capability against a professional uniform baseline standard.
